EMBARGO: Immediate Release

The Liberal Democrats have led the fight in Parliament and defeated Farage’s Ten Minute Rule Bill on withdrawing the UK from the European Convention on Human Rights.

The Labour frontbench abstained from the vote, while the Conservatives voted with Reform. 63 Labour backbenchers voted with the 64 Liberal Democrats who voted against the bill.

The final vote was 154 against and 96 for.

Liberal Democrat Leader Ed Davey said:

“We just defeated Nigel Farage’s Bill in Parliament to tear up people’s rights and withdraw from the ECHR.

“Farage wants to do away with the Britain Churchill built and turn it into a version of Trump's America. We stopped him.”
