Lib Dems: Government's changes to planning will "put the clock back decades"

25 Nov 2025

EMBARGO: 0001 Tuesday 25th November

Responding to concerns from conservation charities that the Government's approach to planning threatens to worsen declines in wildlife and special places across England, Liberal Democrat Housing and Communities Spokesperson, Gideon Amos MP said:

"The Government urgently needs to deliver growth and commit to building 150,000 council and social rent homes per year - but that does not have to be at nature's expense.

"In one of the most nature depleted nations on earth Liberal Democrats stand for protecting our precious green spaces and for doing development better.

"It’s time to practice building for and with people and nature, not against them. The Government's changes will put the clock back decades and leave an increasingly barren legacy for our children. The Government has got to think again."
