Lib Dems: Kemi Badenoch is at the "height of hypocrisy" over the Iran War

Responding to comments made by Kemi Badenoch on the Today programme, where she criticised Donald Trump’s lack of plan for his conflict in Iran and condemned the Government’s lack of a plan for defence, Liberal Democrat Foreign Affairs spokesperson Calum Miller MP said:

"This is the height of hypocrisy from Kemi Badenoch, who was only too happy initially to cheer on Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu’s idiotic war. She only highlights her own lack of foresight when she was a cheerleader for a conflict, and now expresses concern about the lack of a strategy once the consequences become politically inconvenient.

"This selective amnesia is part of a pattern. Britain’s military was recklessly hollowed out by her own party, with Army troop numbers slashed to the lowest levels since the Napoleonic era. Instead of criticising the state of our Armed Forces now, she should apologise that her party oversaw this decline even as threats grew in the last decade.

"The Conservatives are yet to understand that you cannot spend years stripping the defence budget and then wonder why the cupboard is bare. Time and time again, they prove that they cannot be trusted when it comes to our national security.”
