EMBARGO: IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Lib Dems: Khan must address "chronic" tube air con issues

With the Met Office issuing a red warning for heat and temperatures potentially exceeding 40 degrees, and many still using the London Underground Network, Liberal Democrat Transport Spokesperson, Olly Glover MP, said:

“The high temperatures passengers will experience this week across London and the Tube Network could have dangerous consequences for people’s health, from dehydration to heat stroke and more serious issues.

“With four lines on the Underground Network running with trains over 30 years old, including the Central Line as one of the busiest, warm words and advice about looking out for each other simply doesn’t cut it. Sadiq Khan must urgently address these chronic issues and accelerate the rollout of air-conditioning across the network, and look to our European neighbours with similar transport networks, such as Madrid, who have experience of this.”
