Lib Dems: Ministers "should come before Parliament tomorrow" with details and timeline for under 16s social media ban

Responding to reports that Starmer is poised to announce a social media ban for under 16's, Liberal Democrat Education Spokesperson Munira Wilson MP said:

“After years of dither and delay the Government seems to finally be waking up to Liberal Democrats calls for action to make young people safer on social media.

"Only through a film-style age rating system can we protect children from harmful online content and addictive algorithms while avoiding the unintended consequences of a blanket ban.

“Ministers should come before Parliament tomorrow with more details and a clear timeline for these plans. Parents cannot be left in the dark on this issue any longer.”
