Lib Dems on Chancellor mobility scheme comments: warm words dressed up as progress

27 Sep 2025

EMBARGO: IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Responding to the Chancellor's comments to the Times regarding a UK-EU youth mobility scheme, Liberal Democrat Europe Spokesperson James MacCleary said:

"The Government is moving far too slowly, and dressing up wooly commitments and warm words as meaningful progress. We need firm action now that will boost growth, provide benefits to young people and bring revenue to the Exchequer.

"Keir Starmer kicked the can down the road in May, and we are still waiting on any firm details months later. For a government in desperate need of growth, that is simply not good enough.

"Liberal Democrats have been banging the drum for a capped youth mobility scheme and we will continue to hold the Government's feet to the fire until they finally act."
