Lib Dems on prisoner release errors: govt “has lost control”

11 Nov 2025

EMBARGO: Immediate release

Responding to the news from the Ministry of Justice that 91 prisoners have been released in error between April to October 2025, Liberal Democrat Justice Spokesperson Jess Brown-Fuller MP said:

"This has been a complete shambles from the start, and it’s a disgrace that the Government is yet to get a grip. Lammy’s announcement today only confirms what we already know: the Government has been totally inept at managing the justice system.

“Ninety-one prisoners have been wrongly released in the last six months, with the figure looking to rise further - that is simply indefensible.

"Every resource must go into finding those released and protecting the public. The British people deserve competence, not chaos, when it comes to protecting public safety."

Notes to Editor:

David Lammy told MPs in Parliament today what he is doing to solve prisoner release errors, which has been reported in full here
