Lib Dems win big in Labour chair's own backyard

20 Feb 2026

EMBARGO: Immediate Release

The Liberal Democrats have won a council seat from Labour in Redcar, in Labour party chair Anna Turley’s own home ward of Zetland.

Reform had to withdraw their support from their candidate, Michael Manning, after the Lib Dems exposed his abhorrent views on Jewish and Muslim communities.

A Lib Dem source said:

“Labour’s vote is collapsing across the country. Only the Lib Dems can beat Reform – even in the backyard of Labour’s own chair Anna Turley.

“We’re on the up and chomping at the bit for more big gains at the local elections, as disillusioned voters abandon Labour and back us as the strongest party to take on Reform.”
