Meta fines: the UK needs "a Government brave enough to stand up to Silicon Valley"

Responding to Meta being fined $567m in the US over child safety, Liberal Democrat Education, Children and Families Spokesperson Munira Wilson MP said:

"In the US, courts are rightly hitting Meta with fines for the harms its platforms cause to children. In the UK, Meta is taking our weak regulator to court over the cost of being regulated. This is utterly absurd.

"While other countries are holding Big Tech to account, our Government is standing on the sidelines. Social media addiction is a public health issue, and the era of Big Tech escaping responsibility must end. We need a film-style age rating system that breaks big tech's addictive business model, and we need a Government brave enough to stand up to Silicon Valley."
