Rise in long NHS waiting list delays “could have awful consequences for thousands of people”

EMBARGO: Immediate Release

Responding to the number of year-long elective waits rising for the second month in a row to 196,000 in May, Liberal Democrat Health and Social Care spokesperson Helen Morgan MP said:

“These delays are shocking and could have awful consequences for thousands of people. It is heartbreaking to think that so many have had to wait for so long for treatment, languishing in pain unable to get on with their lives for the past year.

“The damage the Conservatives did to our NHS cannot be overstated but this Labour government is failing to deliver the change that people are crying out for.

“That change will only happen when they fix the underlying problems in our health service starting with social care. Instead, the Government has kicked reforms into the long grass with patients bearing the consequences of that decision.”
