Rwanda: Sunak doubles down on failure

Responding the Prime Minister's announcement that he will introduce emergency legislation in an attempt to force through his Rwanda policy, Liberal Democrat Home Affairs spokesperson, Alistair Carmichael MP said:

"Instead of admitting defeat and concentrating on real solutions to the mess that is the asylum system, Rishi Sunak has doubled down on failure.

"If the Prime Minister was serious about fixing our broken asylum system, he would focus on tackling the backlog and opening safe and legal routes. Not on these unworkable gimmicks that only serve to grab headlines.

"All this new path will achieve is throwing more taxpayers money onto the bonfire of Conservative mismanagement."
