Social care commission: Govt lacking pace and ambition to solve this challenge
EMBARGO: 00.01 Friday 2nd May 2025
"Starting this urgently-needed review almost half a year after it was promised shows just the Government is lacking the pace and ambition required to solve this challenge.
"For years under the Conservatives social care was shamefully neglected, with patients bearing the brunt. This goes right to the heart of the crisis facing our NHS. Since then, Labour have proved they aren't treating social care with the seriousness it deserves, by having their commission chair undertaking two equally challenging reviews at once.
"We stand ready and willing to participate in long-delayed cross-party talks so that we can find a long-lasting consensus that saves our NHS and gives families the reassurance they need that loved ones will get the care they need when the time comes. We'll continue to push for the Casey Commission to wrap up within this year, and for reforms to be implemented as soon as possible.
“As well as crucially hearing from those receiving care, Liberal Democrats will speak up for the millions of people missing out on care and the unpaid family carers who are left picking up the pieces of a broken system.”
