Social care talks show promise, but just the beginning says Davey

EMBARGO: Immediate Release

After attending cross-party talks on social care, Liberal Democrat Leader Ed Davey said:

“We had a constructive call, and I come out of it feeling hopeful. Clearly this is just the beginning and we will need many more cross-party meetings to find consensus. Everyone will have to accept things we might not like in order to work together - but I think that’s what the public want and expect us to do.

“I go into these discussions in good faith. I know from my own experience that the care system just isn’t working so I want to be part of the solution for the millions of people struggling across our country.

“Any solution has to have family carers at its heart – and it was good to hear the Prime Minister recognise that today.”
