Solar panel announcement: Govt must ensure panels put on “even more buildings”

Responding to news that developers will be required to install solar panels and heat pumps in all new homes in England as part of updated planning requirements published by the government, Liberal Democrat MP for Cheltenham and sponsor of the Sunshine Bill, Max Wilkinson MP said:

“I’m pleased that the principles of my Sunshine Bill have now been agreed by the government and all new homes built from 2028 will come with solar panels - not before a very long wait.

"The common sense measures I proposed in my private member’s bill last year will reduce bills for owners of new build homes, reduce pressure on the energy grid and help fight climate change. It’s a win-win-win. I hope the government will now move at pace to ensure solar panels are put on even more buildings - both residential and commercial.”
