UK-US tech deal: Govt must not sacrifice protections for children online

16 Sep 2025

EMBARGO: 22:30 Tuesday 16 September 2025

Responding to the UK and US agreeing a new tech deal as Trump arrives for his state visit, Liberal Democrat Science, Innovation & Technology Victoria Collins MP said:

“As with any deal, we will be carefully scrutinising the details when they are published in full. For a start, the Government must commit that it will not sacrifice crucial measures like the Digital Services Tax and protections for children online on the altar of pleasing Donald Trump.

"But of course any investment of this scale in Britain's tech sector is welcome news. The UK has incredible talent and potential in its universities, research centres and tech companies, and we must see the Government expand on them to further boost British tech credentials on the world stage.”
