US Pharma deal: US ambassador must apologise to medicines watchdog head

3 Mar 2026

EMBARGO: Immediate release

Commenting on reports that Trump’s ambassador to UK rebukes head of medicines watchdog over drug pricing, Liberal Democrat Health Spokesperson Helen Morgan MP said:

“It is utterly outrageous that a British public servant has been dressed down by a foreign regime for putting the interests of British patients first. Keir Starmer seems happy to watch on meekly as British institutions and public servants are humiliated by a foreign regime. Liberal Democrats are not.

"The government must summon the US ambassador and demand he apologises to Jonathan Benger. Britain deserves leadership that will protect our interests, and stand up against an American President who wants to fleece our NHS.

"The British people have had no say. Spending in our NHS is a decision for our country - no one else.  The government must put the agreement to a vote in Parliament."
