Water bill hikes: Ministers should block hikes and force companies to pay

22 May 2024

EMBARGO: Immediate release

Responding to the Consumer Council for Water revealing some water bills may rise by 91% over the next five years, LiberalDemocrat Environment spokesperson Tim Farron MP said:

"Bill hikes are a kick in the teeth whilst greedy water company execs and shareholders pocket millions.

"These disgraced firms are destroying the environment with raw sewage, delivering poor customer service, and now expect the public to pick up the tab.

"Frankly, the whole thing stinks.

"Ministers need to block bill hikes and force these companies to clean up their own mess. The Conservative government is complicit in this environmental tragedy by letting water firms get away with it."
