What's the role?
Regional parties coordinate activity across a broad area, and each region contains a variety of local parties with a mixture of prospects and challenges. The Regional Secretary ensures that the Regional Party manages its area well, supports local parties and delivers on its plans.

Key tasks
The role generally takes 8 - 10 hours per month.
- Maintain information about the operation of the Regional Party, including records of meetings and decisions made.
- Prepare meeting documentation for Regional Executive meetings. This includes the agenda, which should be prepared in corroboration with the Regional Party Chair
- Organise venues and dates for Regional Executive meetings, attend and minute these meetings.
- Help to organise regional conferences.
- Act as the 'face' of the region, alongside the Chair and any regional parliamentarians, to members and press.
- Assist with problems brought directly to the Regional Party by members or local parties therein, and support aspects of Regional work where other Officers need support.
- The Regional Secretary is also automatically a member of the Local Parties Committee, with responsibility for minuting this meeting.
Skills & Attributes
- An understanding of the party structure, from Federal to Local Party levels.
- An understanding of how the Regional Party operates, including understanding the regional constitution, and advising members of the Regional Executive Committee about how to follow the rules.
- Media skills (in regions without Regional Media Coordinators)
- Interpersonal skills, to liaise with key contacts across Local Parties in the region.
How to Apply
Regional Officers are elected at Regional AGMs. These occur at regional conferences, typically in the autumn. Every party member from within the region is eligible to stand for election.
