Prospective Westminster Parliamentary Candidate for Edinburgh West
The Local Party Executive of Edinburgh West Liberal Democrats invites applications for the selection of a Prospective Westminster Parliamentary Candidate for the constituency of Edinburgh West. Applications must be received by the Returning Officer no later than 12 noon on 23rd October 2026.
Edinburgh West is one of the Liberal Democrats’ strongest seats, held with a majority of over 16,000 at the last general election. The Scottish Liberal Democrats have won the seat at every general election since 1997 except 2015, and it sits within a wider area of party strength, including at the Scottish Parliament, giving you a strong base of activists, councillors and infrastructure to build a campaign on.
The constituency covers the north-west of Edinburgh, from Murrayfield, Corstorphine and Drylaw out to Cramond on the Firth of Forth, and beyond the city to Ratho, Kirkliston and South Queensferry at the foot of the Forth bridges. Home to Edinburgh Airport, Murrayfield Stadium and Edinburgh Zoo, it combines thriving suburbs, historic villages and rural communities.
This is a seat where the opportunity is to build on real strength rather than start from scratch, representing a community that already knows and trusts the Scottish Liberal Democrats. If that’s a challenge that appeals to you, we’d love to talk to you about standing.
To apply, please use the provided online links to fill out the Candidate Application Form as well as the Candidate Statement & Diversity Form.
