Prospective Westminster Parliamentary Candidate for Rutland and Stamford

1 Oct 2026

The Local Party Executive of Rutland and South Lincolnshire Liberal Democrats invites applications for the selection of a Prospective Westminster Parliamentary Candidate for the constituency of Rutland and Stamford. Applications must be received by the Returning Officer no later than 12 noon on 14th October 2026.

While this is a Conservative-held seat at Westminster, the Liberal Democrats already have a strong foundation here. Rutland County Council has been led by the Liberal Democrats since 2023. Lib Dem Councillors from Stamford form part of a rainbow coalition at SKDC. The constituency also encompasses wards in Market Harborough (Leicestershire) where Liberal democrats hold 3 District Council seat (Thurnby and Houghton ward) and a County Council seat (Launde division) This gives the party a genuine record in local government to build a national campaign on.

This is a seat where the campaign is about growth rather than an immediate breakthrough, translating that strong council record into support in Stamford, Oakham, Uppingham, and the wider constituency.

To apply, please use the provided online links to fill out the Candidate Application Form as well as the  Candidate Statement & Diversity Form.

Separately, please email the following documents to the Returning Officer:

  • Election Artwork: This should be a political CV or manifesto, limited to a single side of A4 in PDF format which is maximum 2 MB in size. This document will be included in the e-ballot and posted member mailing.

Returning Officer: Ian Davison, candidates@libdems.org.uk

Applicants are responsible for ensuring their submission is confirmed as received by the Returning Officer prior to the closing time of 12 noon on 14th October 2026.
