About the role

Woking Liberal Democrats and Will Forster MP are looking for an enthusiastic, organised and self-motivated person for a full-time role combining campaign organisation with constituency support.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a successful and ambitious local team. Woking Liberal Democrats are building on the election of Will Forster as MP in 2024 and the party’s success in the 2026 local elections, when it won all 14 seats contested. We are now strengthening our campaigning operation in preparation for future local elections and the General Election.

The role comprises four days per week supporting Woking Liberal Democrats and one day per week providing non-party-political constituency support to Will Forster MP. Although the two elements have distinct responsibilities, they require many of the same strengths: excellent communication, strong organisation, sound political judgement and the ability to build positive relationships across the constituency.

Key responsibilities

Campaign organisation

  • Coordinate the delivery of the local campaign plan, ensuring activity is completed on time and within budget.
  • Organise canvassing, telephone campaigning, leaflet production and distribution, and other campaign activity.
  • Recruit, support and train volunteers, helping to build an active and effective campaigning team.
  • Produce persuasive and engaging campaign communications across print, digital and social media.
  • Use campaign data to inform activity and provide practical advice to the campaign team.
  • Support fundraising activity and donor engagement.
  • Promote the work of Liberal Democrat councillors at Woking Borough Council, Surrey County Council and, in due course, the new West Surrey Council.
  • Review local party communications and recommend improvements to systems and processes.
  • Work collaboratively with the MP’s office and campaign and communications teams in neighbouring constituencies.

Constituency support

  • Respond to routine enquiries from constituents and assist with more complex cases by telephone, email, social media and in person.
  • Draft correspondence, gather relevant information and ensure agreed actions are completed promptly.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records in accordance with data protection requirements.
  • Assist with constituency surgeries, meetings, visits and stakeholder engagement.
  • Analyse patterns of enquiries and prepare reports for the MP and other members of the team.
  • Support the MP’s non-party-political communications, including social media, online graphics and video, press releases, news alerts and media monitoring.
  • Help ensure that the MP maintains regular contact with local businesses, public services and community organisations.
  • Provide practical support for visits and constituency events.

About you

You will have:

  • Excellent written, verbal and digital communication skills.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • The confidence to work independently and take responsibility for your workload.
  • The ability to work positively with volunteers, constituents and people from a wide range of backgrounds.
  • Good political awareness and sympathy with the values and principles of the Liberal Democrats.
  • Sound judgement, accuracy and discretion when handling sensitive or confidential information.
  • Experience in using social media effectively.
  • The ability to explain processes clearly and support volunteers with differing levels of knowledge and experience.

Previous experience in political campaigning, communications, community engagement or a constituency office would be an advantage, but training and ongoing support will be provided.

Some evening or weekend work and occasional travel may be required.
