Salary: £26,000-£30,000 depending on experience with review after 6 months

Job Details

Liz Jarvis MP and Eastleigh Liberal Democrats are seeking to fill a joint position that supports the efforts of the MP and a successful local party with a large majority council group that has controlled Eastleigh Borough Council since 1994. You will work for Eastleigh Liberal Democrats organising campaigns and volunteers for success in local and national elections and for the MP’s Parliamentary office to support non-party political media and provide innovative communications output. You will have the opportunity to work on the Unitary campaign for South West Hampshire and liaise with other local parties in the new Unitary.

As Campaign Organiser you will:

  • Build campaigning and organisational capability, including recruiting members and volunteers.
  • Manage and maintain the team of volunteers across all aspects of campaigning, including running canvassing sessions and facilitating leaflet delivery
  • Organise and review the campaign plan.
  • Plan and support fundraising, including campaigns and events.

As Communications Officer you will:

  • Produce press releases, liaise with media outlets, meeting deadlines as appropriate.
  • Establish, monitor and update a social media and online presence in the constituency.
  • Produce online graphics, video content, and a weekly newsletter.
  • Closely follow local media coverage and issues that impact the MPs work.

Essential skills:

  • Well-organised and motivated person.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Confidence working with a diverse group of people in busy working environments.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision, self-motivation and able to manage your own workload.
  • Familiarity with current issues within UK politics.
  • Sympathy with the values and principles of the Liberal Democrats.
  • Ability to be in Eastleigh Borough and travel around the area either by own or public transport.
  • Experience in website development and maintenance and using social media such as Facebook and Instagram 

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience of Liberal Democrat campaigns.
  • Experience producing high-quality graphic for social media and leaflets with knowledge of Photoshop, Affinity, or Canva.
  • Experience of Liberal Democrat software and databases, including Connect, Fleet, EventCube and Lighthouse.
