Job Specification:

Mid Sussex Liberal Democrats are looking for a dynamic Campaign Organiser to be a key part of the team driving their General Election campaign in the Mid Sussex parliamentary seat (currently held by the Conservatives). The team currently consists only of unpaid volunteers. In the May 2023 local elections, the Liberal Democrats made extensive gains, taking 20 out of 48 seats on Mid Sussex District Council, becoming the largest party and taking control of the Council from the Conservatives, who had run the Council for a generation. As well as firmly establishing the Liberal Democrats as the leading party in local government in the area, the May results demonstrated the party’s ability to make powerful electoral gains across the Mid Sussex area on the back of sustained campaigning efforts.

In addition, the boundaries of the Mid Sussex parliamentary constituency have changed this year. The constituency area now covers the part of the Mid Sussex District which was most favourable to the Lib Dems in the May 2023 elections.

We are now putting together the team to build on that success at the General Election. Working directly to our campaign lead, the Campaign Organiser will be the lynch-pin of that team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project manage the campaign - You’ll make sure our Campaign Plan in Mid Sussex is delivered on-time and in-budget, working closely with the rest of the campaign team and activists.
  • Get the message out - You’ll help plan and manage a rigorous schedule of campaign activity to get the message out to voters across the Mid Sussex constituency. This will involve organising doorstep canvassing, leaflet delivery, mass telephoning to voters and more - all powered by our volunteers.
  • Power-up our team of activists - You’ll organise training to arm our volunteers with the skills, tips and tricks they need to make an impact when meeting voters on the doorsteps. You’ll work with the rest of the campaign team to recruit talented and committed new activists.
  • Provide data-driven campaign advice - Drawing on insights from local surveys, opinion polling and your sharp political antennae, you’ll inject your advice into the campaign to help make the decisions we need to win.

Key things we’re after from you:

  • You know how to get things done.
  • You’re hot on deadlines, making sure team members know what tasks they need to do, and at keeping track of a budget.
  • You’ve got experience managing a project with lots of strands.
  • You are good at setting priorities and sticking to them.
  • You can fire up passionate volunteers.
  • You’ve got the enthusiasm and empathy to motivate our team of activists. You might have experience recruiting, managing or training volunteers.
  • You can multitask with ease.
  • You’re organised enough to manage lots of simultaneous demands from volunteers, the rest of the campaign team and the candidate without losing your cool or losing sight of your goals.
  • Previous experience organising events would be a bonus.
  • You care enough to get stuck right in.
  • You’re invested in our mission to turf out the Conservatives and drive positive change locally and nationally.
  • You’re not afraid to roll up your sleeves to get the job done.

Experience for you:

  • Networking: Meet and learn from ambitious campaigners from across the country, including MPs and fellow campaign staffers.
  • Have a real say: Your voice will have a huge bearing on the shape of the campaign.
  • Change lives: Make a difference to Mid Sussex and to our country’s future by doing what you do best!
