Salary:                   £13.45 p/h (subject to review)

Hours:                   7.5 hours per week

Purpose of the job

Solihull Liberal Democrats are seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated person who can manage a team of volunteers and build campaigning capacity in Solihull Borough.

This is a fantastic opportunity to lead on our work, building on success in recent years, to deliver campaigning activity and build the infrastructure and organisation necessary to solidify our position and elect more councillors in Solihull borough over the next few years.

The aim of this role is to expand local party capabilities, capacity and reach, and as such, in the coming years, delegate some of the responsibilities of this role to new campaigners, freeing up more time for you to expand the party further in the future as the role evolves.

Job Description:

  • For the most part, this role will require the successful applicant to recruit local deliverers, campaigners and, where possible, people with useful skills to spread workload more amongst local members, either by targeted door knocking or telephone calls.
  • Building campaigning and organisational capacity, such as chasing Focus literature copy and images, delivery networks, wholesaling and canvassing days. 
  • Building and managing a team of constituency volunteers who oversee all aspects of capacity building and campaigning.
  • Designing and delivering an ongoing programme of doorstep communication with voters.
  • Maintaining relevant databases e.g. deliverers, donors, poster sites etc. 
  • Organising events e.g. action days, social events, etc.
  • Maintaining and updating social media, website and other digital infrastructure.
  • Reasonable phone calls, travel and other expenses paid.

Person Specification:

The following criteria are considered essential:

  • Exceptional personal organisation.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead, mobilise and manage volunteers.
  • Excellent written communication skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision, self-motivating and able manage own workload.
  • Familiarity with current issues within UK politics and sympathy with the values and principles of the Liberal Democrats.

The following criteria are considered highly desirable:

  • Experience of delivering effective Liberal Democrat campaigns.
  • Experience of Liberal Democrat software and databases (e.g. Affinity, NationBuilder & Connect)
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (occasional visits to Solihull when needed).

Starting date: ASAP.
