Davey: As Trump dines, “the children of Gaza are starving”
EMBARGO: 19:30 17th September 2025
Commenting ahead of Donald Trump’s attendance of the royal state banquet, Leader of the Liberal Democrats Ed Davey said:
"Right now, Donald Trump is sitting down to a lavish state banquet at Windsor Castle. Two thousand miles away, the children of Gaza are starving. Mothers are holding babies who are so thin you can see their skeletons.
"A genocide is unfolding, and Donald Trump is the one man in the world with the power to make it stop.
"He could pick up the phone to Benjamin Netanyahu. Tell him to stop his assault on Gaza City and end the aid blockade. He could use his influence on the Gulf states to help secure the release of the hostages still held by Hamas terrorists. He could set Israel and Palestine on the path to a lasting peace, with a two-state solution.
“If the Prime Minister lets this state visit end without making that point to Trump as forcefully as he can, it will be a terrible moral failure. This is the man who wants a Nobel Peace Prize. So why won’t he act to stop a genocide?”
