Truro and Falmouth is one of the most beautiful constituencies in the country. The landscape is stunning and the seascape is breathtaking. There has been a strong tradition of Liberal Democrat representation in this seat and was held by the party for 36 out 52 years. Currently held by Labour, it is a winnable seat in 2029. Do you want to win it and make this part of Cornwall your home?
The constituency has an increasingly active executive committee who were able to treble our Cornwall Council seats at the last election. Cornwall is a unitary authority and it is run by a minority Liberal Democrat administration supported by independents. The constituency can boast three Cornwall Councillors as well as five councillors on Truro City Council. The main settlements are Cornwall’s capital city, Truro and the thriving, colourful and historic maritime town of Falmouth. Our largest employer is the NHS; we have a large education sector and we also have a world renowned university and mining school.
Whilst there is an educated and affluent profile to the constituency, there are those who are less fortunate and who successive governments have failed. You need to have these members of our community in mind when you apply. You will also need to demonstrate how you would go about winning this constituency.
We hope you will apply and see what we see: a seat that with hard and systematic work can return a Liberal Democrat MP at the next election. If we get it right, it will be you!
Good luck with your application.
