1. Donations to political parties, including sponsorship, are regulated by the Political Parties Elections and Referendums Act 2000.
2. Donations of over £500 are only accepted if they are from permissible donors.
3. These are: individuals on a UK electoral register, UK Trade Unions, companies incorporated in the UK and registered and trading in the UK, Limited Liability Partnerships, UK unincorporated associations and UK building or friendly societies.
4. You must be on the electoral register in the UK (excluding the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man) in order to make a donation of more than £500 as an individual and we will check this.
5. Donations must be from the donor’s own funds and may not be passed on from a third party. It is an offence not to reveal the true source of a donation.
6. Donations of more than £11,180 from the same donor to the Federal Liberal Democrats in a calendar year are required to be reported to the Electoral Commission. This applies to single donations of more than £11,180 or cumulative smaller donations over £500 which exceed £11,180 in the calendar year. The threshold for public disclosure of donations to Local Parties (including English Regions, Scotland & Wales) is £2,230.
7. The name of the donor and the amount of the donation will be published on the Electoral Commission website. Addresses of individuals are not published but the addresses of organisations are.
