Purpose of the Role

The City & Financial Services Engagement Manager will lead the Liberal Democrats’ engagement with professionals working in the City of London and the broader financial and professional services sector.

Under the banner of Lib Dem City eXchange (LDCX), you will build strong relationships with individuals across finance, banking, investment, insurance, fintech, and related professions, ensuring their expertise and insights inform the Party’s policy development and parliamentary work. This role is central to strengthening the Liberal Democrats’ credibility as a serious, pro-growth, liberal voice for the City.

Context

Following our historic success at the 2024 General Election — winning 72 MPs — the Liberal Democrats are expanding our engagement with people working in the City of London. LDCX plays a key role in connecting financial services professionals with the Liberal Democrats, creating a structured channel for dialogue, insight and policy engagement.

This is a unique opportunity to operate at the intersection of politics, policy and the City, working closely with MPs, senior Party figures, volunteers and external professionals throughout this Parliament.

Key Responsibilities

City & Financial Services Engagement

  • Proactively identify, engage and build relationships with professionals working in financial and professional services in the City of London.

  • Help coordinate engagement requests from City professionals seeking to share expertise with MPs and spokespeople.

  • Hold meetings and coffees with individuals from finance and related professions to gather insight, experience and advice.

  • Generate regular LDCX bulletins and surveys to facilitate regular communication between the work of Liberal Democrat Parliamentarians and finance and professional services professionals at scale, and proactively drive up the number of subscribers to LDCX.

Events & Roundtables

  • Design, organise and deliver a programme of high-quality LDCX events, including roundtables, panel discussions and receptions focused on financial services and economic policy.

  • Work with key spokespeople and external contributors to ensure events are well-briefed, relevant and impactful.

  • Liaise with the Liberal Democrat Business Network and other internal stakeholders to deliver joint events on priority policy areas.

Policy Insight & Briefing

  • Collate and condense complex insights from City engagement into clear, accurate briefings.

  • Prepare written papers and presentations for parliamentary advisory teams, spokespeople and the Leader’s Office.

  • Ensure insights from the financial services community are effectively fed into policy development and parliamentary strategy.

Stakeholder Coordination

  • Liaise closely with MPs, staff and volunteers to share insights gained from City engagement.

  • Maintain clear records of engagement activity and ensure coordination across relevant teams.

General

  • Support the Party’s fundraising objectives by identifying potential supporters within the City and financial services community and facilitating appropriate introductions to the fundraising team.

  • Assist with the delivery of fundraising-linked engagement activity, including events that combine policy discussion with supporter cultivation.

  • Work collaboratively with the fundraising team to ensure insights from City engagement help inform and strengthen fundraising strategy.

  • Undertake other duties as reasonably required. The role may evolve as LDCX develops and Party priorities change.
