Job details

Elmbridge comprises the whole of the Esher & Walton Parliamentary Constituency, 12 wards, and four wards which are in the Runnymede & Weybridge Constituency. We are the largest party on Elmbridge Borough Council and have recently elected the Lib Dem MP for Esher & Walton.

The Government is proposing to divide Surrey County Council into two (possibly three) unitary authorities in 2027. Elmbridge is currently expecting to be part of an East Surrey Unitary Authority. There are elections planned for this shadow new authority in 2026.

Elmbridge Liberal Democrats are seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated person who can   recruit and manage a team of volunteers and build campaigning capacity. As well as helping to get our message out about Monica Harding MP and our Lib Dem councillors we want to make significant gains in the 2026 Unitary Authority elections.

It’s a fantastic opportunity to lead the work, to deliver campaigning activity, and build the infrastructure and organisation necessary to hold a Lib Dem MP, but also to help lead the campaign to kick the Conservatives out of Surrey.

We currently employ a part time intern until July 2026, when we would hope to recruit another.

We have an office in Walton High Street; currently we do not have printing facilities within the borough.

Job Description:

  • Take overall responsibility for delivering the agreed constituency campaign plan, as agreed between the LDHQ Campaigns Manager, the MP and Elmbridge Liberal Democrats.
  • Building campaigning and organisational capacity – including recruiting members, donors, deliverers and poster sites.
  • Building and managing a team of constituency volunteers who oversee all aspects of capacity building and campaigning.
  • Designing and delivering an ongoing programme of doorstep communication with voters.
  • Assisting with the design, production, print, and coordination of delivery of campaign literature.
  • Maintaining relevant databases e.g. deliverers, donors, poster sites etc.
  • Organising events e.g. action days, social events, etc.
  • Maintaining and updating social media, website and other digital infrastructure.
  • Supporting fundraising and assisting with fundraising campaigns and events as required.
  • Attending relevant conferences, training and other meetings as required.
  • Liaising with volunteer organisers, where we have them, in wards.  Ideally our model is ward-based.

Person Specification:

The following criteria are considered essential:

  • Exceptional personal organisation.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead, mobilise and manage volunteers.
  • Excellent written communication skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Familiarity with current issues within UK politics and sympathy with the values and principles of the Liberal Democrats.

The following criteria are considered highly desirable:

  • Experience of delivering effective Liberal Democrat campaigns.
  • Experience of Liberal Democrat software and databases (e.g. Affinity Publisher, Fleet & Connect)
