Mike Martin MP and the Tunbridge Wells Lib Dems are looking for an ambitious and experienced campaigner to drive their borough election campaign in May 2026.
This is now a held seat with a well-established campaign infrastructure and a growing team of seasoned campaigners – join us to help us continue to grow!
Key responsibilities
Project manage the campaign
You’ll make sure Mike and the Tunbridge Wells Lib Dem team win seats across Tunbridge Wells delivering an agreed campaign plan on time and in budget, working closely with our local team of campaign volunteers.
Recruit and inspire our growing team of activists
You’ll continuously recruit and engage new volunteers and activists into the Lib Dem campaign, working with our senior campaign volunteers. If needed, you’ll run training to arm our volunteers with the skills, tips and tricks needed to make an impact when meeting voters on the doorstep or to build a winning leaflet delivery team.
Produce on-message and persuasive campaign literature
You’ll create well-designed leaflets and letters – crafting persuasive copy and powerful images – to inspire voters and supporters, working within the campaign’s agreed strategic messaging. You’ll also coordinate the production and distribution of literature from printers and our campaign HQ.
Organise our ground campaign activity
You’ll plan and manage a highly-organised schedule of ground campaign activity to get the Tunbridge Wells Lib Dem volunteer local party to deliver our messages to voters across every part of the constituency. This will involve recruiting volunteers, organising doorstep canvassing sessions, coordinating leaflet delivery teams and sessions and more – all working alongside our seasoned local volunteers.
Contribute data-driven campaign insights, advice and decisions
Drawing on voter contact data, feedback from canvassing teams, responses to literature and your sharp political instincts, you’ll contribute insights and analysis to help make the decisions we need to win. More experienced candidates will be given responsibility to contribute well-evidenced advice and help drive key decisions.
Who we’re looking for
You know how to get things done
You’re highly organised and have experience managing a project with lots of different strands. You know how to make sure team members know what tasks they need to do and make sure they do them. You’re good at meeting deadlines, making sure others do too, and at keeping track of a budget.
You can motivate and lead others
You have the professionalism, enthusiasm and empathy to work with a wide range of different people across a large team of volunteers. You know how to build relationships and motivate others and will be able to work closely with our ward leaders and teams so as to grow capacity and get things done. Ideally you will have experience recruiting, managing and training volunteers.
You have an eye for detail, design and wordsmithing
You have experience designing and writing high-quality, engaging and well-crafted campaign leaflets and letters that win votes. With sharp attention to detail, you know how to produce proof ready products and have experience using publishing tools.
You can manage competing priorities in a fast-paced role
You’re organised enough to multitask at pace across lots of simultaneous demands and manage competing priorities independently. You know how to keep your cool under fire and when surrounded by distractions, never losing sight of your goals, and good at encouraging others to do the same.
You want to win
You’re hungry and driven to win. You’re committed to our mission to keep winning seats at a local level to drive positive change locally and nationally. You care enough to get stuck right in and get the job done. In exchange, we will show you how we have run winning campaigns over the past two years.
Technical experience
Very strong general computer skills with up-to-date knowledge of Microsoft Office. Good knowledge and familiarity with Lib Dem campaign software, Connect and Affinity Publisher.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 4 years’ experience (or a similar level of seniority in their current role) and have line management experience.
In the longer run, there is an opportunity for the role to grow into something bigger, as we prepare for the creation of a new West Kent authority replacing the borough and county councils. Contact us for details if you’re interested to know more about this.
