Purpose of the job
Do you want to make the world around you a better place to live? Do you want to see your values making a real difference in peoples’ lives? Do you want to play a leading role in one of the big news stories at the next General Election? If you answered ‘yes’ to any of these questions, this role may be the perfect opportunity for you!
Local parliamentary candidate Matt Sanders and the South West Hertfordshire Liberal Democrats are seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated person who can take a leading role in campaigns, produce campaign material, manage a team of volunteers, and build campaigning capacity across the South West Hertfordshire constituency.
South West Hertfordshire is a top target seat for the Liberal Democrats following our strong second place in 2024, and in this role you would be working to deliver campaigning activity and build the infrastructure and organisation necessary to elect Liberal Democrat councillors in 2027 and a Liberal Democrat MP at the next General Election.
The constituency consists of all 13 current wards of Three Rivers District Council, along with the Kings Langley ward of Dacorum District Council. Liberal Democrats run both of these councils, as well as Hertfordshire Council Council. From May 2028, Hertfordshire’s existing councils will be abolished and replaced with new unitary authorities. Local elections are scheduled for May 2027. This means that work will need to progress quickly to help secure a Liberal Democrat majority in the new South West Hertfordshire Unitary Authority.
The job will provide the opportunity to build a wide range of highly desirable skills - from fundraising and volunteer management, to graphic design and communications - giving the successful applicant a strong platform for career and personal development. You will have access to a large programme of training and resources, as well as coaching and mentoring from an experienced regional Campaign Manager and peer-to-peer mentoring with senior local leaders and campaigns staff from other parts of the country. This will set you up well for future careers in politics, campaigning, communications and many other fields.
