Campaigns Organiser North Cotswolds (with Stroud)
Job Title: Campaigns Organiser
Salary: Pro-rata £25,000 for 4 days per week + pension contribution, expenses and training costs (£13/hour – 30hrs a week – total salary £20,280 a year actual)
Contract: The post is for a fixed term until 1 st June 2027. The post will be accountable to the Executive of the North Cotswolds Local Party via a contractual agreement. Day-to-day supervision will be offered from the Party’s PPC in North Cotswolds (and the Stroud party chair for their day a week). Formal line management will be with Tim Kent, Regional Campaigns Manager.
Hours: Some hours will be unsocial and it is expected that the Campaigns Organiser will work to assist evening and weekend campaign activities by agreement.
Transport: Travel expenses will be paid for pre-agreed expenditure.
The Context: North Cotswolds Liberal Democrats are offering an exciting opportunity. This will be a chance to gain skills and knowledge to pave the way for a career in political campaigning.
This opportunity builds on the recent election of Lib Dem MPs in Gloucestershire, a large swing to the Liberal Democrats in the North Cotswolds constituency at the last General Election, making the seat a key marginal battleground, and seeks to develop political campaigning across the constituency.
Stroud is a neighbouring seat that is looking to develop infrastructure and capacity in certain key divisions. The local party seeks to retain council seats currently held and to raise and develop the profile of the Liberal Democrats elsewhere in the constituency, as part of a broader strategy for the Liberal Democrats within Gloucestershire as a whole.
The major functions of the job are: To support the work of the Liberal Democrats in the North Cotswolds and the Stroud constituencies in order that:
- The local parties’ membership and volunteer base grows and thrives. This is of high importance to this Local Party. In particular, in those parts of the constituency that have no Liberal Democrat councillors or active members.
- An increased number of Liberal Democrats are elected to the new unitary council in May 2027.
- The local party’s capacity to fight elections, including unitary elections is increased
- We gain the North Cotswolds seat in the next parliamentary election.
- In Stroud constituency, that we retain representation of the Wotton-under-Edge area at the next local authority elections.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
1. Build a team of campaigners and volunteers to win seats in the 2027 unitary elections and create a base for future local and national elections. Also to pave the way for winning the North Cotswolds seat at the next General Election.
2. Organise volunteers, local party workers and supporters to deliver a campaign plan by:
- Recruiting, training, managing and mobilising volunteers
- Leading volunteer teams on campaigning activities (doorstep, on-line, telephone and delivery)
3. To ensure the delivery of a programme of regular doorstep voter contact
4. To contribute to the production of literature as per the local party literature plan across the constituency
5. Build and develop digital campaigning capacity alongside key volunteers
6. Develop a database of volunteers and supporters taking into account confidentiality and data protection rules
7. Ensure canvass data is collated and analysed, using party software
8. To liaise if appropriate with staff and officers of the Regional Party (Western Counties) and local council groups
9. To assist fundraising groups to a limited extent as allowed by other duties
10. To be part of a team which delivers the above
11. For the Stroud local party, one day a week will be allocated and will focus on the priority areas within that constituency. The remaining 3 days a week will be allocated to North Cotswolds.
In addition, the campaigns organiser will comply with general duties, including
- Adhere to all safety and fire regulations and cooperate with the local party to uphold good standards of health and safety
- Uphold ethical and professional standards and not behave in a manner that is likely to bring the party into disrepute
- Promote and sustain a responsible attitude towards equal opportunities and diversity within the party; and
- Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing learning and development and participate in training relevant to the role.
