Job Title: Campaigns Organiser for Wells & Mendip Hills Liberal Democrats 

Salary: £26,247.50 per annum (Real Living Wage) with annual increases plus pension 

Location: Initially home-based with travel throughout the local area, the role has the potential to become partially office-based. The applicant must have a full driving license and access to a vehicle. 

Days: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week 

Tenure: Fixed-term contract until 2 months after the next General Election, with 3 months probation

Summary 

Wells and Mendip Hills Liberal Democrats, Tessa Munt MP and the area's local Liberal Democrat councillors are seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated person who can play a key role in building the volunteer infrastructure, organising doorstep activity and helping the team work towards the Somerset Council elections in 2027. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real impact on developing the local party and ensuring future electoral success.

Among other tasks, you will be communicating with volunteers about upcoming campaign activities, recruiting new volunteers, coordinating constituency door-to-door efforts, and working together with Tessa, local councillors, and the wider team to steer the campaigning efforts.

Key Responsibilities: 

Campaign Support: 

● Assist the Constituency Executive Committee in planning, driving, and executing campaign strategies for the Somerset Council elections in 2027. 

Volunteer & Membership Recruitment 

● Lead on recruiting new volunteers and members to grow the local team.

● Nurture grassroots networks and develop a strong, motivated volunteer base. 

● Manage and support existing volunteers, ensuring they are engaged, informed, and ready for campaigning activity. 

● Build the organisational capacity needed to fight and win the 2027 local elections. 

Campaign Coordination 

● Organise and deliver campaign activities, including canvassing sessions, action days, leaflet delivery, and community engagement events.

● Maintain and manage a clear and structured schedule of campaign activities across the constituency. 

● Manage and monitor voter contact, ensuring accurate data collection and reporting. 

Digital Campaigning

● Develop and expand the local party’s digital campaigning capacity.

● Oversee social media content and strategy to promote Liberal Democrat values and local messaging.

● Maintain and update the local party website to keep supporters and residents informed. 

Support for Elected Representatives 

● Support the MP’s campaigning activity across the constituency. 

● Provide practical support for local councillors in their local campaigns.

Additional Duties 

● Undertake any other tasks required by the Constituency Executive Committee that align with the goals of the local party and its campaign strategy. 

Person Specification 

The following are considered essential: 
● Ability to communicate effectively with and maintain the confidence of a wide variety of stakeholders. 
● Ability to lead, inspire, mobilise and manage volunteers.
● Excellent written communication skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. 
● Ability to work independently with limited supervision; self-motivating and able to manage own workload. 
● Comfortable using Google and Microsoft applications. 
● The willingness to learn and develop relevant skills. 
● Ability to motivate and manage a team of people and work effectively as a team member. 
● Ability to meet deadlines. 
● Ability to delegate effectively.
● Sympathetic to Liberal Democrat aims and/or values.
● Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle. 

The following criteria are considered highly desirable: 
● Knowledge of the local area, its politics and local communities. 
● Experience with Liberal Democrat software and databases 
● Experience in canvassing and political campaigning, ideally within the context of local elections.
● Experience managing events and campaigns.
