An exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented, passionate and flexible individual to join Vikki Slade MP's team as Communications Officer (full-time, 40 hours).

The successful applicant will support the MP’s office and objectives through highly effective communication and social media presence. They will design and develop engaging, targeted content and messages across a range of channels.

They will ideally have access to a car, be comfortable and confident in accompanying the MP on visits, and be competent at note-taking. The role is office-based. 

The role includes the need to:

- Establish and develop appropriate strategies around social media and online presence in the constituency. Produce online graphics and video content, as well as publicise surgeries and news alerts

- Ensure online presence is meeting the demands of the constituents, the locality, and the MP

- Publicise the MP’s parliamentary duties on social media

- Manage and monitor social media enquiries, dealing with cases that do not need to be transferred to a higher level. Ensure all enquiries are dealt with promptly

- Monitor media coverage of the MP and the work she is involved in

- Build relationships with journalists, preparing and sharing press releases as required

- Evaluate the impact of external communications activity

- Develop proactive and reactive communications with all media

- Research local, regional, or national issues to support the MP's work

- Collaborate to prepare media briefings

- Manage the MP's website

- Occasionally take initial action on queries from members of the public, including responding on behalf of the MP as appropriate

- There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of the normal working hours and
travel for work occasionally

- Engage professionally, confidentially, with care and integrity with members of the public, through telephone enquiries, social media, emails, and face-to-face

Upon appointment, you will be required to comply with the Baseline Personnel Security Standard, undertaken by the Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO). See Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO) page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
