Job Description: Membership Development Officer
Reporting to: Senior Operations Manager
Contract: Full time
Salary: £28,000
Purpose of Post: To support the party in growing its membership and talent pipeline, developing its membership offer, and supporting local parties and candidates to do the same. This is an opportunity for a self-starting individual to trial fresh approaches and take ownership of membership projects.
Closing date: Monday 14th July 2025 at 9am
Tasks and Responsibilities
- To help local parties and the Scottish Liberal Democrats recruit new members against an agreed target
- Dealing with membership queries and liaising with local parties
- To provide relevant training, mentoring and support to members and local parties
- Developing membership growth and retention plans in partnership with the Federal Party
- To build two-way engagement with our members and establish journeys for individuals to become activists, super activists and candidates
- Create and maintain a regular communication with members
- Support local parties and membership officers to develop local plans to engage and recruit new members, and to talent spot new party officers and candidates of the future
- Provide a structured journey to convert supporters into members, activists and regular donors
- Help devise new engagement and development tools
- Make regular reports to the Finance & Membership committee
- Supporting the recruitment of volunteer members to key party functions
- Other projects as reasonably requested
During election periods, to assist the Party in any way reasonably requested.
To assist the Operations Executive in the delivery of the Party’s internal elections
Person Specification
Essential
Excellent attention to detail.
Able to effectively manage competing demands.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Experience of managing stakeholders
General administrative skills
Share the values of the Scottish Liberal Democrats
Able to work without supervision.
Desirable
Understanding of data protection legislation (inc. GDPR)
Experience of using databases, CRM’s etc.
Experience of working with volunteers.
