Tenure: Until the next scheduled appointment for a three-year term, due Q1 2029
Location: This role may be conducted predominantly remotely. Some in-person meetings may be required, typically at Lib Dem HQ (66 Buckingham Gate, London) or with donors at events in central London.
Time requirement: Flexible, with meetings at various times of the day, including during normal working hours

Introduction
This is your opportunity to play a pivotal role in the Party’s work. You will help us win by helping us raise the necessary funds to compete with other parties.
The Party Treasurer, as set out in Article 20.6 of the Federal Constitution, is responsible for the Federal Party’s fundraising initiatives, including for our major political and General Election campaigns. This person will be politically savvy, persuasive, and have a strong understanding of what motivates potential donors and the ethics surrounding fundraising.
The person will chair the party’s Fundraising Board, and they can set the frequency and rhythm of its meetings as required. Meetings are usually held on Zoom, but the party’s meeting rooms in central London can also be used. Reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.
The Treasurer works closely with the Leader, Chief Executive and the Director of Fundraising, and sits on both the Federal Finance and Resources Committee (FFRC) and the Federal Audit and Scrutiny Committee (FASC).
The Federal Board elects this role. In the event of a contested election, candidates will be required to take part in an online hustings.
Note: this role isn’t responsible for the party’s small donor fundraising from party membership fees.
Major responsibilities
- Organising the strategy for Federal Party fundraising in consultation with other Party Officers and with the Chief Executive and Director of Fundraising;
- Identifying, cultivating and soliciting donations from donors and prospective donors;
- Agreeing fundraising targets to meet the political and organisational objectives of the Party;
- Chairing the Fundraising Board, agreeing its membership with the Party Leader and Party President, and working with the Director of Fundraising to agree fundraising activities and targets;
- As a member of the Federal Finance and Resources Committee (FFRC), keeping them informed on fundraising strategy, progress and initiatives;
- Ensuring that federal fundraising activities comply fully with the requirements of the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 2000 and with the party’s donation protocols;
- Supporting fundraising activities in the wider party to ensure their activities are coordinated with the Federal Party’s fundraising activities;
- Extending the fundraising potential of the Party, so that we keep abreast of the most modern and innovative fundraising techniques and developments for political parties; and
- Speaking at donor events in London and other locations.
Person specification
Candidates for the role of Treasurer must be members of the Liberal Democrats and be able to demonstrate their affinity with the party's values, as well as an understanding of its structures, relationships, and financial needs. A commitment to the Liberal Democrats is required, but evidence of substantial prior involvement is not, and induction and training will be available.
Experience in fundraising for a political organisation is highly desirable, and fundraising experience in a relevant context is required. Proven ability to chair meetings and manage stakeholders is needed. Knowledge of the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 2000 would be advantageous.
They will be able to build strong interpersonal and professional relationships in a multi-stakeholder environment. They will be a strong communicator and able to develop effective relationships with party donors.
