Salary: £34,766– £37,000 depending on experience

Overview
We are looking for a dedicated and professional Senior Comms Officer to help share the work and raise the profile of Victoria Collins, MP.

Responsibilities include

  • Responsible for the management and development of the external communication presence of the MP office

  • Design and develop engaging, targeted content and messages across a range of channels

  • Oversee the monitoring and updating of online platforms including the website and social media

  • Monitor media coverage, liaise with media, prepare press releases as required (on constituency, non-party political matters)

  • Prepare media briefings

  • Establish and develop appropriate strategies around social media and online presence in the constituency. Produce online graphics and video content, as well as publicising surgeries and news alerts

  • Manage and progress portfolio of casework appropriately

  • Research local, regional or national issues to support MPs' work

  • Liaise and engage with external providers and suppliers as and when required

    There may be requirement for the role holder to work outside of normal hours and travel for work occasionally, organise and support events, where appropriate
     

    Skills required

  • Previous experience working in a communications, PR, or media role, ideally within a political, public sector, or campaigning environment

  • Proven ability to create compelling content across multiple channels including social media, press releases, newsletters and video

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with excellent attention to detail and the ability to adapt tone and style for different audiences

  • Experience managing social media platforms and growing an online presence, including analytics and audience engagement

  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with journalists, editors and media outlets

  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment

  • Able to work independently and use initiative, as well as collaborating effectively within a small team

  • Discretion and sound judgement when handling sensitive, confidential or politically complex matters

  • Strong awareness and understanding of current political issues, helpful if in science, technology and innovation policy

  • Quick learner and ability to distil complex information

  • Sympathetic to Lib Dem values

  • Graphic design and video editing skills(e.g. Canva, Adobe suite or equivalent)
