Job title: Whistleblowing Appropriate Person Lead and Deputies

Responsible to: the Federal People & Development Committee (FPDC)

Salary: N/A: this is a voluntary role

Tenure: Three years

Location: This role may be conducted predominantly remotely

Time requirement: this will vary depending on the report workload

Introduction

This advertisement is for an ‘Appropriate Person(s)’ to lead investigations into Whistleblowing reports, in line with our Whistleblowing Policy.

We are recruiting for a lead Appropriate Person, and for deputies/substitutes to investigate reports.

The policy (which outlines how reports will be handled and the role of the Appropriate Person(s)) will be shared with any interested parties on request.

The Whistleblowing Policy provides for more than one Appropriate Person to investigate reports. This allows the workload to be spread among multiple volunteers and helps identify potential conflicts of interest. Please indicate when applying whether you are applying to be the lead or a deputy.

This is a voluntary role. The Appropriate Person will be provided with guidance and training to help them in their role, which includes some administrative support.

Person specification

The Appropriate Person will be a member who is removed from the Party's day-to-day operations.

They would not, for example, be a member or recent member of the Federal Board, Federal Council, Federal Finance and Resources Committee or Federal Communications and Elections Committee.

They could, for example, be a member of the Federal Policy Committee or the Federal Conference Committee. Still, this role would require significant time commitments that may not be compatible with the work of either committee.

They may hold other positions in their Local Party or Affiliated Organisation. They might be an elected representative or Peer (although parliamentarians are less likely to have the time to commit to this role).

We are looking for people with professional or voluntary experience in policy areas or professional areas related to whistleblowing/protected disclosures, or with strong transferable skills.

This could include, but is not limited to:

  • Human resources.
  • A legal background.
  • Experience working for or as a prescribed person.
  • Standards work in local authorities.
  • Legislative or scrutiny experience in the area of whistleblowing/protected disclosure.
  • Experience of casework related to whistleblowing/protected disclosure.
