Standards Officer

Job Title:                           Standards Officer

Reports to:                       Head of HR & Compliance

Salary:                               Competitive + 8% employer’s pension contribution

Contract:                          Full time, permanent

Location:                           Can be based anywhere in UK however regular travel to London HQ will be required

Purpose of the job

The Liberal Democrats are seeking a professional and well-organised Standards Officer to support and advise party officers responsible for overseeing standards and discipline, and for resolving complaints and disputes.  The post-holder will deal with questions which may arise concerning the Liberal Democrats constitutions, internal rules and procedures.

The Standards Officer will support the recruitment and training of party members to perform designated functions including conciliation, mediation, arbitration, investigation and adjudication.

We are looking for someone with a strong intellect, independent mind, integrity, discretion and probity.  Because of the need for absolute impartiality in supporting functions of this nature, the position will operate semi-independently from the usual chain of command within Lib Dem HQ.

Infrastructure and Capacity Organiser

Responsible to:   Chair of Cheltenham Campaign Team, with input from Senior Campaign Manager (England & Wales)

Salary:                    £20,700pa

Tenure:                   Fixed until 28th May 2021 with the possibility of longer term employment

Hours:                     Full Time (40 hours)

Location:                 Cheltenham, with travel around the town

Job purpose

Managed by: Chair of Cheltenham Campaign Team, with input from Senior Campaign Manager (England & Wales)

A new role has been created for a highly motivating Liberal Democrat campaigner to build our volunteer capacity and spearhead our voter contact activities. You will have the opportunity to work with experienced campaigners to learn what it takes to win.

Cheltenham is one of the top Liberal Democrat parliamentary targets and your role will not only help to keep Lib Dem control of the Council but to develop our capacity to elect a Lib Dem MP in Cheltenham.

We are also looking for someone with a good understanding of campaigns and data who can ensure a data-driven approach to our campaigns.

Key Responsibilities

Work with the campaign team on the following responsibilities, within the framework of the local party's campaign strategy:

  • Supporting candidates and councillors in their campaigns.
  • Recruitment, training and management of volunteers
  • Facilitating a full field programme of voter contact
  • Connect management with the party’s Data Officer
  • Membership support with the party’s Membership Development Officer
  •   Assist Media Officers and Literature Manager with the targeting of messaging
  • Any other duties as required

Person specification

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, in person and by phone, to work with members, candidates, elected representatives and other stakeholders.
  • The ability to motivate and inspire volunteers.  Including the ability to lead from the front in campaigning.
  • Working knowledge of Connect and data analysis skills
  • Practical experience of campaigning for the Liberal Democrats.
  • Ability to train others.

Work Pattern

Flexible working will be expected in this job. There will be the need to work long hours at certain times in the political calendar.

Post Organiser and Agent (South East Cornwall)

Responsible to:       Jim Candy, Constituency Chairman

Salary:                      £20,000 (pro-rata)

Tenure:                    Temporary

Hours:                      16 hours per week including a significant amount of evening and weekend work

Location:                   Home working (at least initially) and over Zoom etc. also some on the ground work will be required

Closing date:           18th September 2020

Purpose 

To support and enable South East Cornwall Liberal Democrats to fight the 2020 Cornwall Council elections, including acting as the legal agent for Lib Dem candidates. 

The target for this election is a substantial increase in the number of Liberal Democrat councillors elected to Cornwall Council from the constituency and for the Liberal Democrats to take overall control of the council. A secondary target is an enlarged support network of volunteer campaigners.

The post reports to the Constituency Chairman.

Main Responsibilities 

To act as the legal agent for South East Cornwall Liberal Democrat candidates, including ensuring candidates are nominated properly and in time, legal deadlines during the campaign are met, the campaign meets all compliance requirements and for completing and submitting all expenses returns. 

To liaise where necessary and appropriate with other Liberal Democrat organisations including the Liberal Democrats Federal Compliance Team, in completion of agenting duties, and to undertake any necessary training. 

To be the campaign organiser for the South East Cornwall campaign, ensuring that the campaign plan is delivered effectively, on time and to budget. 

Help develop our network of voluntary campaigners.

ALDC (Association of Liberal Democrat Councillors) is the leading campaigning organisation within the Liberal Democrats.
